"The person who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever seen before."
~ Albert Einstein

Congratulations! You’ve just become engaged and now you’re ready to plan your wedding. So, which Saturday evening should you pick?

Surprisingly, the answer is none. To learn why, let’s do a little math:

In Pima County this year there will be nearly 6,000 weddings. The most popular months for a wedding are April, May, and October. There are only 14 Saturday evenings in April, May, and October. EVERYONE wants to get married in one of the top ten wedding locations. (In reality, most people want to get married in the top five.) That means 6,000 couples are competing for a maximum of 140 possible wedding venue spots. Cutting to the mathematical chase, that means your chance of finding a Saturday evening spot in the right month in a top location is a whopping 2%.

So what is a bride and groom to do?

You could do what some couples do and keep calling and calling and calling until you find a place that still has a Saturday evening open. As Maria Gawne of Gawne Photography explained, "That’s a sure way to find a less than wonderful location. In fact, I know of more than a few couples who opted to get married in a decorated barn in the desert just to hold their wedding on a Saturday night. Their first clue should have been when the location said, ‘Sure, we still have plenty of Saturdays open.’ "

Fortunately, the best answer is simple: pick another night of the week, especially during the most popular months. As Emmeline Hill, owner of The Z Mansion, one of Tucson’s top five wedding locations explained, "It’s known as the ‘curse’ of the Saturday evening. Smart brides and grooms avoid that curse and don’t fight the crowds. They still choose the best months, but they pick another night of the week. It’s a great way to book a great location and it’s also a great way to save money in the process."

So, which night should you choose? Here’s a breakdown of alternative nights from

If you’re looking to save money and have a wonderful wedding, Tuesday is a perfect choice. Events held on Tuesday nights qualify for a variety of wonderful FREE Z Mansion upgrades.

Events held on Thursday nights also qualify for a variety of wonderful FREE Z Mansion upgrades. In addition, Thursday night weddings allow brides and grooms to make full use of the weekend for their honeymoon!

If you like to party, Friday is your night. While people will be wonderfully respectful during your Friday ceremony, the party will start the second your ceremony is over and that energy will continue throughout the night. Many couples keep that energy going by heading over to Congress Street in downtown Tucson at midnight where everyone always loves (and frequently buys drinks for) America’s newest married couple!
