“December in the Desert” comes alive through the colorful paintbrush of renowned Tucson visual artist, Diana Madaras. "Painting fills me with joy,” says the Madaras, who has won Tucson’s Best Visual Artist nine times. She has owned her own art Gallery in Tucson for nearly 20 years. When you step into Madaras Gallery during the holiday season you will enter a Desert Winter Wonderland- enjoying a huge assortment of uniquely Tucson holiday cards, ornaments, and hand-curated holiday décor.
Madaras is continually inspired by culture and landscape of Tucson. Gallery visitors will take a visual tour of the city through paintings of the historic Barrio district, the University of Arizona, Mission San Xavier del Bac, iconic local landmarks, and the Tucson Wildlife Center animals. The Gallery offers a wide variety of southwest gifts including original paintings, reproductions, ornaments, cutting boards and more. Custom sizing and framing options are always available.
Madaras captures the beauty of the colorful desert. Whimsical scenes depict saguaros and prickly pear dusted in snowfall- a rare but exciting occurrence for seasoned Tucsonans.
“Meyer Street Holiday” is inspired by the Barrio District. “I have painted this doorway in downtown Tucson several times,” says Madaras, “but this time I wanted to capture more of the building and the iconic barrio district that preserves our heritage and makes our city so unique.”
Those shopping for University of Arizona alumni can find beautiful gifts featuring Madaras’ paintings of the historic Old Main building. Gorgeous wooden keepsake boxes include a Madaras U of A tile inlay.
Madaras Gallery also features the work of 26 guest artists. The collection includes original paintings, bronze sculptures, exquisite ceramic pottery, jewelry and more.
Every year Diana hand-selects special holiday décor items to be featured in the Gallery. This display is only up during December, so stop by to check out what fun festive items made the cut this year!
