Arizona Paranormal:
When you do a paranormal road trip!

By Becky McKiddy-Gydesen

My road trip started on 9/28 with Will and we had no particular plans at all except for the fact we had hotel reservations in Vegas for October 1-3. We just started driving on an adventure that ended up being a very paranormal adventure.

We started with some small stops in Prescott and driving parts of the old historic Route 66 that lead us to a small little museum that I swear had some ghost hanging around with the feel the museum had. We ended up on the road till about 8 pm (we had started at 4 am) in a town in Beatty, NV. Everything there was titled "Death Valley" so we figured it was a great place to stop!

The next morning we were up and on the road again with our first stop in Rhyolite, NV which is seriously an old ghost town with statues that look like ghosts and they were welcoming you to the town. Some of the old buildings are fenced off that you can not enter; others you are free to roam (as always I want to point out to please not trespass on properties and be respectful to them). Some of the buildings had that interesting vibe to them and it was cool to step back in time.

We continued on our road trip and our next stop was in Goldfield, NV where I got to stand outside of the haunted Goldfield Hotel! Then onto Tonopah where we ate lunch and made a stop at the clown motel and checked out the lobby and saw the cemetery that is literally right next door to it. Then on to Virginia City where we went into the Silver Queen Saloon to check out the oldest wedding chapel in NV and hear about some of the paranormal activity in there hotel and bar.

We then went to the Old Washoe Club where we entered the museum to look around and had perfect timing because a paranormal team entered the museum and asked if we were excited to be there, and we started talking to them and they invited us to go upstairs to the club! So we got to do an improv investigation of the Old Washoe Club (talk about a bucket list opportunity for a paranormal investigator!) While in the club we heard knocks, footsteps, high heels on the wood floor, and saw some weird lights in an area; it was the coolest experience. We sadly didn’t get to spend the night in Virginia City but continued onto Reno to get a hotel for the night.

The next day, which was international ghost hunting day, we went to see my good friends in Eureka! We spent the day just wondering around and got lucky enough to catch the people working on the Masonic building and they gave us a tour, it’s the only underground club left. They had a bible that dates back to the 1800s. You could just feel the history or maybe it was the ghost in the building.

That night we ended up investigating with Eureka Paranormal in the Eureka Cafe. We had gone down in the tunnels beforehand though and checked the entire place out, that night we focused mainly on the Saloon and then parts of the hotel that was used as a brothel back in the day. At one point I was able to hear a whisper in my recorder as I was listening live but couldn’t make out what it had said. Then they decided to use the spirit box and we were asking if the ghost could see us so I asked what color is my hair and through the spirit box, you hear, “purple”, which indeed is the color of my hair. I was pretty impressed by that because that confirms ghost can see you and apparently they see in color. That night we actually slept at the haunted cafe/hotel.

The next morning we were off to Vegas. We spent the day wondering around the Vegas strip and got back to our hotel right when all the sirens started going crazy. We had missed the mass shootings that had happened by less than 30 minutes, if we would have decided to go to Mandalay Bay we would have been in that area at that exact time; we were right in that area literally 30 mins before it happened. That was very scary and Prayers go out to all those affected by that night.

Due to the tragedy part of our plans for the next day were cancelled, we had tickets for Zak Bagans Haunted Museum. Even though he wasn’t going to have the grand opening that day due to the tragedy, we wanted to walk to the museum and try to get some information about refunds or opening date etc. So we started a long walk towards the museum and when we got there we found out they would be opening the museum the next day so we decided we would just leave later the next day so we would still be able to see the museum. As we were walking around the museum I was taking pictures and again had perfect timing because Zak himself was by the door and peeked out and came over to talk to us.

The next day we got to the museum and waited for the grand opening and we were the first public group to get to tour the museum. Zak’s Museum is filled with odd things, some haunted, some not. Now I am sensitive to the paranormal and there was about 2 rooms that felt off to me and 1 room I almost fell over because I got so unbalanced with the hit of energy from the room. Funny enough, they weren’t in the rooms that most would think I would feel that way. Around Peggy the doll, the demon house room, and the box I was fine. The rooms I felt off in were the “jail room” and caldron room, and the one I almost fell over in was the Dr. Kevorkian room.

We saw Zak throughout the museum and also Bacon and Billy (those who are Ghost Adventures fans will know who they are). After the Museum tour was over we were lead into the gift shop where I met Zak’s mom and talked to her about who I am and what I do. We talked for awhile and then left and again had perfect timing because as we walked outside Aaron Goodwin was in the parking lot so I got to meet him and talk to him. After saying goodbye to Aaron, we started our trip back home.

It was an amazing haunted road trip! In some locations, you could literally just feel the history and energy. This field always amazes me and always will. I truly love what I do and when I can travel and explore it even more, it makes it that much better.

So remember when you go about your daily lives, just know you are never truly alone!
