Usually, I write about haunted places, experiences, and more upbeat & positive things dealing with the paranormal. This month I feel the need to express some of the downfalls to this field and to make sure people truly realize this isn't something you get into for just a thrill.
Most people who are in this field for the right reason will tell you it called to them and they want to try to find answers. For me, it called to me; I had paranormal experiences my entire life and I was curious. My curiosity led me to read books, research more about it, & even go on a ghost hunting experience that led to me having my own company & team; it literary fell into my lap. It was always about more than just a quick thrill to me, it was about trying to get answers, then turned into a passion for finding answers, and then into a passion about helping people and spirits. I am continually learning about this field, experiencing new things, and meeting new people. Being dedicated to this field non-stop for the past 4 years has opened my eyes to so many things, some good & some bad.
Let me say this, I am not one to say that everything is demonic in this field because I know first hand it's not. I have done a lot of cases and not once have I ran into anything I would call demonic, but I have encountered negative spirits. I also know that yes demonic does exist it's just not as popular as Hollywood makes it appear to be. With that being said; there are still dangers within this field.
You can truly get followed home, you can be made to feel ill, and you can truly get hurt by not only spirits but the environment. If you go into some places there could be bad flooring you need to be careful of, you could go into places you need to wear a mask because of mold or airborne diseases, etc. You truly need to be respectful to the places you go to and just know what you are dealing with in the physical sense of things; the spiritual sense will always be a surprise so to say.
I have been scratched, have had marks left on me, have been touched, have felt ill, been followed home, & even taken on emotions of severe depression or sadness. If you aren't prepared to deal with these things it can truly cause havoc in your life. I have seen people who just want that thrill and end up with more than they bargained for. I have seen people get into this field for the wrong reasons; those reasons being for money & fame and trust me this field is not the field to get into for those 2 things. I have seen so called teams get formed and they have no clue what they are doing and make matters worse for themselves or clients and have seen other teams have to go in and clean up their messes. I have seen so called ghost hunters be disrespectful to property and to spirits and it gives the rest of us bad names.
I always encourage people that need help in this field to truly look into the team they are calling for help, research them, ask around about them if you can. I also encourage people that are curious to the paranormal to not mess with it on their own, go to public events or hunts if you want that thrill. Last but not least if you want to truly be an investigator in this field, then research about it, read about it, & find an already established group and see if they can help train you or give you pointers, don't take on resident cases or even business cases without knowing what you are doing first cause you don't want to make situations worse for a client.
Most of all though, know there can be dangers & that this field isn't about a thrill, money, or fame; it's about finding answers, curiosity, and helping people & spirits alike. This truly is a passion and a calling, but even if it's not your calling you need to remember, you are truly never alone.
